Modern clients like to display an avatar for a room (eg: in room listings).
There's no XEP that specifies the protocol, but in the wild, EJabberd's implementation (as documented in https://docs.ejabberd.im/tutorials/muc-vcard ) is used.
Openfire should provide a similar feature.
